Citizens Advice visit

7th September 2018

Hemel Hempstead MP, Sir Mike Penning, visited the Citizens Advice Dacorum at their new offices in the Voluntary Sector at The Forum recently, to talk to staff and volunteers about local issues that are affecting local people.

In 2018, Dacorum Citizens Advice are celebrating 50 years of giving advice. They help people with over 15000 issues each year, via face to face and telephone service, supported by trained volunteers. This impartial, confidential service is free to all those who live or work in Dacorum.

Citizens Advice also gather direct evidence about problems in the community which supports local and national campaigns for improvements in legislation and services that affect everyone.

Angela Fox, Advice Services Manager said “We discussed a number of issues including the increasing need for debt advice and also advice on benefits ahead of the roll out of Universal Credit which starts in Dacorum in December of this year.”

Mrs Fox reported that “Following our relocation to The Forum, the number of people seeking our help has increased, and we are currently recruiting for additional volunteers and seeking further funding to help support this increased demand”.

Sir Mike Penning added:

"Citizens Advice provides a fantastic service to the people of Dacorum. It was great to meet and have a chat to see where we can work better together. I would encourage anyone interested in volunteering to get in touch with them. It is interesting and stimulating work and provides local people with vital help on a wide range of issue."
