Dacorum Young Artists Competition 2018 concluded with an exhibition of work at Astley Cooper School, Hemel Hempstead on 12th May.
The event was attended by The Mayor and Mayoress of Dacorum, Cllr. David and Cllr. Elaine Collins, who presented the prizes and certificates. The Rt Hon Sir Mike Penning MP attended. Mike has been a long-standing supporter of the event: this is an area which has a special interest for him.
The Organisers of DYA 2018 commented:
‘The need to inspire artistic creativity among our fine young citizens is paramount in an increasingly competitive world - such creativity can help them to stand apart and add an extra dimension to all our lives.
Sir Mike’s words at the Exhibition and deep interest he showed in individual schools must have been very rewarding to parents and children alike.’
The competition has been held every year since 2015 and this year, a record number of 22 schools (nearly half the primary and special schools in the Borough) entered the competition, which featured paintings from year 4 and 5 pupils.
Prizes were awarded to the best three entries overall and there were ‘Best in School’ prizes for each school. DYA 2018 Sponsor, Creativity International Ltd, provided sets of art materials to all the schools entering the competition..
DYA 2018 is supported by Berkhamsted and Hemel Hempstead Rotaries, The Arts Society Gade Valley and Ashridge Decorative and Fine Arts Society.
