Sir Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, has welcomed figures released this week that show the number of people in work in the UK is at a record high.
In the Hemel Hempstead constituency, the number of people who are unemployed is down to 895, that is a fall of 1,227 – a 58 per cent drop – since 2010.
Unemployment is now at its lowest level since 1975 and the number of young people out of work has fallen by over 415,000 since 2010. The number of people working full time is at a record high.
There are now 4,835 businesses in the Hemel Hempstead constituency that is over 1,000 more than there were in 2010.
Sir Mike said:
“A record number of people are now in work and the unemployment rate has reached its lowest level in over 40 years. Also, as wages are rising faster than prices, pay packets are going further – all good news for local people.
“Now more people than ever have the security of a job and are able to provide for their families. There is still more to be done but our welfare reforms and our modern industrial strategy are set to deliver even more jobs and higher salaries. Labour would put all this at risk.”
