Sir Mike Penning, Member of Parliament for Hemel Hempstead, has expressed his sadness at the death of Dame Cheryl Gillan, MP for Chesham and Amersham, who has died after a long illness.

Sir Mike said:
“I am extremely saddened to hear of the death of Dame Cheryl. She was the very best of a constituency MP determinedly standing up for her constituents even when in direct opposition to Government policy.

“I have known her for many years, and she was always helpful, friendly and cheerful. The House of Commons needs more MPs like her.

“I send my condolences to her family and close friends.”
