Sir Mike Penning pays tribute to HM The Queen

Hemel Hempstead MP, Sir Mike Penning, has paid tribute to HM The Queen, following the announcement that she has died today at Balmoral at the age of 96.

Speaking after the announcement, Sir Mike said:

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of Her Majesty. This is an incredibly sad day for all of us.

“Over seven decades as our Queen she dedicated her life to the service of her people and country. Most of us have only ever known one monarch and for the whole of our lives she has provided a reassuring stability.

“She became the longest reigning monarch in British history, and the second in history of the world.

“At just 21 she pledged that her whole live would be dedicated to the service of the people of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth which she cherished so much. She faithfully kept that pledge.

“I offer my heartfelt condolences to the Royal Family, who have lost a mother, a grandmother, and a great grandmother. In particular, I send my prayers to the Prince of Wales, who must now assume the role of monarch. I pledge to him my full allegiance and support. God save the King.”
