Business Innovation Award

Sir Mike Penning, Member of Parliament for Hemel Hempstead, congratulated local company FFEI Ltd at the Institute of Physics Business Awards reception held on the Terrace at the Houses of Parliament.

FFEI Ltd won the Institute of Physics (IOP) Business Innovation Award for their development of advanced whole slide-imaging technology in the field of digital pathology. The technology is used in the Roche VENTANA DP 200 scanner to produce ultra-high resolution colour calibrated digital images for human tissue clinical cancer diagnostics. This is helping to save lives by dramatically reducing diagnostic times.

Andy Cook, CEO of FFEI, received the award at the reception and was joined by representatives from Roche who make use of the new technology.

He said:

“I’m delighted that our development team have been recognised with this Innovation award from the IOP. Over the past 15 years we have been investing heavily in creating new technologies for improving the application of digital pathology. As a UK based SME it’s very satisfying to see these technology investments achieving commercial success through our global partners’ products.”

Sir Mike Penning said:

“We have some first-class businesses in Maylands who are exporting high-end products around the world. It is fantastic to see one of them recognised at this event which celebrates innovation excellence and entrepreneurship in physics.”
