Mike Penning, welcomes the appointment of Lord Newton as Chairman to the Buncefield Disaster Inquiry.

The announcement yesterday, that Lord Newton of Braintree is to Chair the inquiry into the Buncefield disaster has been welcomed by Mike Penning.

He said “It is over a month since the disaster at Buncefield and the people of Dacorum are becoming frustrated that it has taken such a long time for the inquiry to get started. Many businesses are basing their decisions on whether to rebuild or not on the outcome of the inquiry. So it is critical for this inquiry to make some headway fast” he said.

“The sooner the inquiry into this disaster is completed the better. I therefore welcome the appointment of the members of the inquiry. I believe Lord Newton is an excellent choice as Chairman as he has a wide experience of the workings of government and has been an active member of many scrutiny committees. I have no doubt he will ensure that this inquiry is conducted fairly with a fine attention to detail.”
