Mike Penning and Dexion workers will meet with Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, John Hutton, on Tuesday 6th December.

Local MP, Mike Penning, will accompany a delegation of former Dexion workers to meet with Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, John Hutton, on Tuesday 6th December. The group are to demand answers from Mr Hutton over how much compensation they will be paid for the loss of their pensions and when they will be paid. They particularly want to ask if they will receive any payment before Christmas.

Dexion workers, like approximately 80,000 other victims of failed pension schemes, are now facing poverty despite a lifetime of saving responsibly for retirement. Mike Penning has been a keen champion of their cause and joined them on a demonstration in London in April.

In light of a recent suggestion by the Chancellor of the Exchequer that he could possibly use ‘unclaimed’ assets from banks, Mike Penning will tell Mr Hutton that there is no better cause than using it to pay compensation to pensioners who have had their pensions stolen. So-called ‘unclaimed’ assets refers to money left lying untouched in a bank account for a very long time, usually in the name of a person who has died long ago.

This visit is a rescheduled meeting following the resignation of former Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, David Blunkett.
