Sir Mike Penning visits Forest School at St Albert the Great Catholic Primary School.

Following an invitation from Year 6 pupils, Sir Mike spent the morning observing a range of activities such as tool work and den building. He even sampled a cherry and chocolate cake, cooked on the campfire.

“We are fortunate to have, not only a new and bespoke school building, but also a superb outdoor area. This includes a fantastic spinney, which is home to our ‘Forest School,’ said Executive Head Teacher Mrs Kathy Little. “Our children have weekly opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in the school woodland.”

“The children really enjoyed Sir Mike’s visit,” said Mrs Helen Ansell, Forest School leader. “They were able to show him how their experiences at Forest School allow them to take supported risks and become resilient, independent and creative learners.”
