Sir Mike Penning, MP for Hemel Hempstead, signed the Ukraine Book of Solidarity in the House of Commons last week.
The book will be sent to Ruslan Stefanchuk, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, parliament of Ukraine.
Sir Mike said:
“I am absolutely appalled at Putin’s premeditated and wholly unprovoked attack on its sovereign and democratic neighbour, Ukraine. My thoughts and prayers are with the Ukrainian people and President Zelenskyy, whose defiance, courage and patriotism in the face of Putin’s aggression is nothing short of inspiring.
“The UK has been supporting Ukraine's security and defence for a number of years, in fact, when I was a Defence Minister I signed off on UK military to train local troops in Ukraine. The UK has since trained over 22,000 members of the Ukrainian army through Operation Orbital.
“Local people have been extremely generous in their help for Ukraine. A large number of residents have contacted me asking about the ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme. I know people are finding it a bit frustrating, and it will take a while to settle down, but we will get there.”
