Hemel Hempstead MP, Sir Mike Penning, visited the offices of family-owned building and civil engineering company Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd at Maylands Avenue recently.

Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd (SRM) is a household name and market leader working on some of the most prestigious buildings in the country. Sir Mike met with the local management team and was introduced to local apprentices.

He said:
“It was a very interesting visit and I was delighted to learn about the company, their plans for the future and learn about innovative techniques. I was also very pleased to have the chance to talk with apprentices and hear their views on entering the industry.

“The management team outlined the challenges facing the industry and shared their experience of the apprenticeship levy.”

The apprenticeship levy is a levy on UK employers to fund new apprenticeships and came into force in 2017.
